Met Sam Harris.

Sam Harris (1873-1924) of Farmersville, Texas stood 6'2" and, in his prime, weighed 731 lbs. Carnival barkers billed Harris as “The Texas Kid - World’s Heaviest Man.”
Beside traveling with the Carnivals, Harris also served as Marshal in Farmersville. His intimidating size made it unnecessary for Harris to carry a weapon-he could pick up a lawbreaker and carry him to the jail.
According to Farmersville legend, Big Sam once rushed into a burning building to push
a 2,000-pound safe out of harm’s way.
Harris also served as Farmersville’s mascot for the fraternal organization —Woodmen of The World.
Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! increased his renown when it weighed in on his Texas-size around 1920.
Harris’ is celebrated as “one of the heaviest humans”
—but mostly, he is fondly remembered locally as a jovial giant.
